The South Central Section is invited to charming Atchison, Kansas for the Spring 2024 Section meeting!
Atchison, perhaps best known as the hometown of Amelia Earhart, is a small city of about ten thousand on the Missouri river in northeastern Kansas. It has wonderful museums, a walkable downtown, restaurants, and of course, tons of aviation history. We will begin the weekend with a reception at the Atchison Municipal airport FBO, which is newly renovated and home of the recently-opened Amelia Earhart Hangar Museum. Heavy hors d'oeuvres will be served (included in your registration) and we will have a cash bar.
After the business meeting Saturday morning, you are welcome to choose from several options: Visiting the last existing Lockheed Elektra 10-E at the Amelia Earhart Hangar Museum, stopping in at the Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum, or walking through the 99s International Forest of Friendship. Atchison also boasts the Evah C. Cray Historical Home Museum, the Atchison Rail Museum, and exhibits about the history of Atchison at the old Santa Fe Depot downtown.
On Saturday evening, we will host our banquet buffet at Paolucci's Italian restaurant, just around the corner from the host hotel. Our guest speaker is Michele Stauffer, long-time 99, who will share various stories from both her time as owner of an aircraft sales business as well as her adventures flying all over the country - some of which you'll need to hear to believe!
We hope many of you will come visit us in Kansas this Spring. It will surely be "No Place Like Home!"
