The Lake Charles Chapter is hosting the spring South Central Section meeting at the Doubletree Hotel in Sulphur, Louisiana, March 28-30, 2025. The theme “Lake Charles Aviation, for Freedom and Beyond” will highlight the historical importance of aviation during WWI of Gerstner Field and the Strategic Air Command at Chennault Field during the Cold War. Beyond freedom will be addressed by the banquet speaker.
Activities will include a free concert by Irish folk singer, Danny O’Flaherty, with sing-along audience participation, on Friday night. Following the business meeting on Saturday morning the group will tour Chennault Field with lunch included at Million Air. Kevin Melton, airport manager, will give an airport overview of Chennault Field followed by a tour of Citadel Customer Experiences and Landlocked Aviation.
Before returning to the hotel, we will pass through the unique Charpentier District and have a brief stop at the Veterans Memorial Park where the commemoration of Gerstner Field can be viewed. A social hour will take place before the banquet and Cajun music will be provided upon entering the banquet by Chris Miller. The featured banquet speaker, Hunter Bernal, will discuss the possible future of electric aircraft and the Lake Charles Regional Airport charging station.
